Goat farming for economic upliftment


The Rotary Foundation approved global grant funding to be used for the following project objectives:

Nepal has lost the total GDP of 3.5-4.5 % due to Nepal Earthquake 2015 and brought around 700,000 more people at the level of poverty. Nepal has been struggling to recover from this massive trauma and it is speculated it might take another 10-15 years to fully recover from this pathetic situation. There are many areas from 17 districts who were worst affected by Nepal Earthquake 2015 in all aspects. Economic damage has started to create problem in livelihood which has mul plier affect in normal life of the people.

Out of worst affected area, Aanikot,ward-1,Panchkhal Municipality (Rural Municipality) is also one of them. The total population of this area is 4200 out which women are 2172 & Male are 2028 respectively. There is mix type of ethnic group compromising of Tamang, Brahamin & Chhetri. 99% population of this area are farmer. This village is reachable within 3-4 hours as it lies remote area of Panchkhal & 62 Km from Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal.
Goat farming is a profitable business with a low investment because of its multi functional utility like meat and milk that are very nutritious. Goats are the widely use and most important livestock in Nepal, most of the goat farms are to produced goat meat. Goat farming is the main sources for generating income in rural areas of Nepal, people are used to maximize their benefits and survive their lives. Every year Nepal import more than 50,000 bucks for meat purpose so there is very good market for it. Important thing in rural area can easily farm the goat.
When rural women are provided with locally adopted hybrid goat along with training in goat management and production, including housing, feeding, health care and record keeping, it will enhance and increase the family income which will helps to raise the family condition and better invest in children education and health.

The goal of the project is to empower women socially and economically through sustainable agriculture, especially goat farming, to boost the family economy of the village of Anaikot in Nepal.
The main objectives of this project are:

  1. To enhance economic condition of people of Anaikot.
  2. Helps to generate more income to invest in family health and education.
  3. To create confidence & dignity in the lives of women.

This project will benefit the 300 family members of 60 households of Anaikot village especially the women.
